Zigong Lantern Craft Lights Up Toronto Zoo – Glow in the Wild Lantern Festival 2026

Toronto, Canada – September 2, 2026 The highly anticipated Glow in the Wild Chinese Lantern Festival officially opened at Toronto Zoo, marking the 20th anniversary of Zigong lantern art touring across Canada. Running from September 2, 2026, through January 2, 2027, this seasonal night attraction features more than 2000 handcrafted illuminated lantern installations built by master artisans from Zigong, China’s renowned “City of Lanterns”.

Built around the theme Colour in Nature, the show moves beyond classic Chinese mythological motifs. The lantern trail highlights wildlife from across the globe, including native Canadian species such as loggerhead shrikes and wood bison, blending traditional intangible heritage craftsmanship with local Canadian ecology and zoo conservation education goalsChina Dail.... Every lantern sculpture is hand-framed, layered with vibrant fabric and fitted with weatherproof LED lighting, engineered to withstand the cool autumn and winter climate of Ontario.

This lantern festival is a successful cross-cultural collaboration between Chinese lantern creators and the Toronto Zoo team. Instead of simply importing ready-made displays, the design team customized every set to fit the zoo’s winding walking routes, animal habitats and family-focused visitor experience. Giant animal lanterns, floral arches and immersive light tunnels line the night path, creating perfect photo spots and slow-paced wandering experiences for families, event planners and tourism operators.

For two decades, Zigong lanterns have proven to be a reliable, high-yield nighttime attraction solution for zoos, botanical gardens, city parks and seasonal festivals across North America. Modular, waterproof and fully customizable lantern exhibits can be redesigned for Halloween, Christmas, winter holidays and cultural celebration events.

If you are a venue manager, event producer or tourism operator looking to add a standout night attraction for your next seasonal festival, custom Zigong lantern installations offer flexible designs, durable outdoor performance and huge social media appeal.
