SINGAPORE — As dusk falls over Gardens by the Bay, a stunning night spectacle blends traditional oriental lantern art with the unique charm of Singapore’s City in a Garden. The brand-new Fantasy Autumn lantern display has opened to the public, running hand in hand with the venue’s signature show, Garden Rhapsody. Handcrafted lantern art from Zigong pairs beautifully with the Supertrees’ sound-and-light performance, creating an immersive evening wonderland for locals and visitors alike.
The elaborate lantern installation for Fantasy Autumn is created by Yashi Culture. The design draws inspiration from fairy tales, tropical flora, underwater sea creatures and the warm mood of the Mid-Autumn season. Tall, glowing blue mushroom lanterns rise among greenery, surrounded by vibrant lotus and tropical flower lanterns in rich hues. Whimsical cartoon character lanterns, pineapple-shaped sprite figures, plus coral and fish lanterns depicting an underwater scene bring the whole exhibit to life. A large moon-shaped lantern bears the words “Fantasy Autumn”, accented by rainbow and cloud light sculptures that set a dreamy tone. Overhead, a long walkway lined with hand-painted paper lanterns sways gently, a favourite photo spot for family visitors. All lanterns are built using time-honoured Zigong lantern techniques: custom steel framing, fabric covering and internal lighting, with fine details that pop against the lush tropical foliage..
Garden Rhapsody, Gardens by the Bay’s iconic headline attraction, takes place every night among the Supertrees. The 18 Supertrees, standing between 25 and 50 metres high, serve as a massive canvas for light. Thousands of LED lights shift colors in time with live music, featuring classical pieces, Asian melodies and homegrown Singaporean compositions. This free 15-minute audiovisual show masterfully combines lighting technology, nature and music, and remains an essential evening experience for anyone traveling to Singapore.
Visitors can enjoy both attractions in one outing. Many choose to wander the lantern exhibits first, exploring zones such as the fairy-tale forest, underwater realm and moon-and-flower garden.
