2025 Guangzhou Cultural Park Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival: National Games Elements Meet Lingnan Craftsmanship

On the evening of September 28, the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival at Guangzhou Cultural Park, which has a history of nearly 70 years, held a test lighting. This grand lantern feast themed "Passionate National Games, Dynamic Liwan" will be open to the public for free from October 1 to 8. This year's lantern festival has become the largest-scale one in recent years due to the newly opened Thirteen Hongs Impression Garden. A total of 27 large and medium-sized lantern sets and nearly 2,000 ambient lights are on display, and citizens lined up in long queues to check in on the first day.

The "Riding the Waves Across Vast Seas and Skies" lantern set at the main entrance has become a visual highlight: the first lantern versions of the National Games mascots "Xiyangyang" and "Lerongrong" in Guangzhou are integrated with dynamic sports poses. The petals of the gate tower are transformed into giant waves to set off the pink whale. The theme calligraphy written by Teacher Qiao Ping highlights the inheritance of sportsmanship, and the "I Love Guangzhou" wording decorated with Manchurian window patterns fully shows the Lingnan charm. The 12-meter-high "Building a Nest to Attract Talents" lantern set in the Southwest Square, created by dozens of craftsmen over several months, features colorful wings that glow and flow in the night.

For the first time, the lantern festival integrates technologies such as 3D printing and COB light strips. The lotus lanterns in the central pool outline a classical beauty with metal frames, and the 10-meter-high classical flower basket lantern set reproduces the graceful appearance of Lingnan's fine fruits using the "frame-building and shaping" technique. During the same period, the held human flower art shows, lantern riddle parties and 7 cultural performances allow citizens to immerse themselves in the vitality of the "three festivals celebrated together" in the light and shadow, continuing the Mid-Autumn memories of old Guangzhou.
