The 54rd Chengdu International Panda Lantern Festival: Illuminating Rongcheng, Celebrating the Spring Festival Together

As the 2025 Spring Festival approaches, Chengdu has adorned itself with dazzling brilliance through a grand lantern festival. Since its spectacular opening at Tianfu Furong Garden in Wuhou District on January 26, the 54rd Chengdu International Panda Lantern Festival has become a focal point of attention across the city and even the entire country. Running until March 10, this lantern festival has attracted countless citizens and tourists, who have flocked to immerse themselves in this carnival that integrates culture, art, entertainment, and consumption.

The predecessor of the Chengdu International Panda Lantern Festival, known as the "Chengdu Lantern Festival", was founded in 1962 and carries the beautiful memories of several generations. With the theme of "A Season of Thousands of Lights · The Flavor of Spring Festival in Chengdu", this year’s lantern festival adheres to the concept of "International Style, Bashu Charm, Chengdu Flavor". It is committed to innovating while inheriting, and restoring the authentic light and shadow charm of the original "Chengdu Lantern Festival".

In terms of lantern group design, six major lantern-viewing clusters are arranged, namely "Bashu Spring Festival Charm", "Classic Inheritance", "Joyful Childhood Fun", "Dreamy Garden", "Time and Space Travel" and "Busy Market". More than 40 large and extra-large lantern groups, over 100 ambient lantern groups, and more than 20,000 lanterns of various types have been designed and produced. Among them, the lantern group "A Park City Beneath Snow Mountains" stands out with its grand scale—nearly 20 meters high and over 80 meters long. It magnificentlly showcases Chengdu’s unique urban landscape and has undoubtedly become the "must-visit check-in spot" at the venue. The "Romance of Love" lantern group, with its elegant shape of 12 meters high and 10 meters wide, tells the firm and eternal romance between lovers, attracting many couples to take photos together. In the "Classic Inheritance Area", the recreated classic works from previous Chengdu Lantern Festivals, such as the "Sugar Dragon", have awakened people’s deep affection and beautiful memories of the Chengdu Lantern Festival. They allow the older generation to relive the past and enable the younger generation to appreciate the charm of traditional lantern festivals.
