Gulf Coast Chinese Lantern Festival Preview Event at Bellingrath Gardens & Home

 Held at Bellingrath Gardens in Alabama, this landmark event brought authentic Chinese Lantern Festival culture to the U.S. Gulf Coast. Our team took charge of the full project process — from creative design and custom production to on-site arrangement and final installation. Combining traditional handcrafted Zigong lantern art with the natural charm of a century-old American garden, we delivered a one-of-a-kind nighttime cultural experience for local communities and visitors.

Spanning 65 acres of mature garden landscape, every lantern display in this project is 100% handcrafted. We adopted traditional Zigong craftsmanship including steel frame shaping and silk fabric wrapping, with fine layered lighting arrangement. No mass-produced or assembly-line products were used. The 14 themed lantern scenes are naturally distributed across the garden, blending harmoniously with local architecture, ancient trees, lawns and lake views, creating a perfect fusion of Eastern art and Western landscape style.

We custom-built a exclusive entrance arch for the venue, integrated with the garden’s official logo and decorated with vivid flower and bird lantern motifs. With soft color matching and elegant structure, it delivers a warm festive atmosphere while fitting the garden’s classic American style, serving as a welcoming gateway for the entire exhibition.

The handcrafted giant phoenix lantern stands as the centerpiece of the whole event. Its layered wings feature smooth color gradients, paired with delicate cloud lantern decorations to present a magnificent festive vibe. As a classic auspicious symbol in Chinese culture, this grand phoenix installation became the most eye-catching landmark and popular photo spot in the garden.

Running along the main walking path, this immersive wisteria tunnel is covered with drooping colorful flower light strings. Flowing soft lights create a dreamy, romantic walking atmosphere. It quickly became a favorite leisure and check-in spot for tourists of all ages.

Designed to suit local aesthetic tastes, this highly simulated crocodile lantern features detailed scale textures, three-dimensional body structure and uniform soft lighting. Different from traditional delicate lantern styles, it presents a wild, vivid and fun visual effect, bringing unique interactive highlights to the garden night tour.

The wolf pack lantern group adopts diverse natural postures, arranged in scattered heights to restore the texture of wild grassland ecology. The cool-toned soft lights add a sense of wild vitality to the quiet garden night, enriching the layering of natural themed scenes.

Making full use of the garden’s natural lake scenery, we arranged elegant swan lanterns and blooming water lily lanterns along the water surface. The warm lights reflect on the rippling lake, forming a quiet, soft and poetic waterscape, adding gentle artistic charm to the night view.

Representing classic Chinese cultural elements, the cute panda and fresh bamboo lanterns are vivid and lively in design. The approachable and childlike style allows overseas visitors to intuitively feel the unique charm of traditional Chinese lantern art and national cultural characteristics.

The twelve Chinese zodiac lanterns are designed with independent shapes, bright colors and auspicious implied meanings. Presented in an international and easy-to-accept artistic form, they intuitively display traditional Chinese folk customs and Lantern Festival culture to global audiences.

Embedded in the forest landscape, the creative squirrel photo frame lantern is perfectly integrated with the original garden vegetation without destroying the natural landscape. The exclusive interactive check-in point greatly enhances visitor participation and enriches the overall sightseeing experience.

Combining giant blooming rose lanterns with dancing butterfly and insect light decorations, the whole scene restores the vivid texture of spring flowers. With natural color gradients and full layered design, the romantic and elegant visual effect perfectly matches Western public aesthetics.

Combined with the tropical geographical features of the Gulf Coast, we customized large tropical leaf lanterns with delicate vein details and soft transparent lighting. The installations fit perfectly with local garden plants, realizing a natural integration of Eastern lantern art and local ecological landscape.

The long corridor is composed of classic Chinese hexagonal palace lanterns, decorated with traditional flower and fortune patterns. Continuous warm lights stretch along the path, creating a strong and authentic Chinese Lantern Festival festive atmosphere in the overseas venue.

Inspired by traditional Chinese oil paper umbrellas, this layered umbrella tunnel features staggered lights and changing scenery with every step. It fully displays the gentle and poetic Eastern aesthetics, bringing a unique Jiangnan-style romantic experience to the American garden.

Our team completed the overall planning and hierarchical layout of the entire garden lighting. All lantern scenes are reasonably distributed with unified tone and balanced density, perfectly echoing the venue’s century-old buildings, ancient trees, lawns and lake views. The integrated light sea presents a unique night view that combines Chinese traditional culture, handcrafted lantern art and Western garden scenery.

This overseas lantern festival project was fully delivered by Yashi Culture on a one-stop basis, covering creative planning, customized design, independent production and on-site installation. We adhered to pure handcrafted production and venue-oriented personalized design, abandoning all stereotyped and unified assembly-line works.

By introducing intangible cultural heritage Zigong lantern craft and Chinese Lantern Festival culture overseas, this project realized friendly cross-border cultural exchange through immersive light art.
