Light Show of Greater Bay Area Shines with Zigong Intangible Heritage Lanterns

As night falls, Nansha Tianhou Palace and Coastal Park in Guangzhou are draped in glowing lights. The 2026 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Lantern Show has wrapped up its 90-day exhibition. Centered on the theme "Uniting the Bay Area, Shining for Millennia", the lantern show covers an area of 800 mu with a 2.5-kilometer sightseeing route. All lantern artworks are crafted with Zigong lantern craftsmanship, a national intangible cultural heritage, marking it a benchmark coastal night tourism project in South China this year.

Yashi Culture delivered one-stop full services for the whole project, including on-site survey, customized thematic design, production and on-site construction. Over a hundred large 3D lantern installations were created, divided into five themed zones: traditional Chinese culture, natural flowers and plants, futuristic sci-fi, cartoon family fun and light tunnel corridor. Balancing oriental charm and international aesthetics, the design abandons cumbersome, heavy shapes, and features a large number of flower and plant lanterns with soft, low-saturation hues. Their transparent, minimalist style fits the aesthetic standards of overseas light festivals perfectly.

The venue boasts picturesque waterside lantern sets featuring ancient Chinese ladies and lotus flowers, as well as grand giant lantern arrays of ancient architecture and mountains. Family-friendly cartoon installations such as cute pony figures, space planet lanterns and colorful monster lights attract plenty of visitors. The blue floral light tunnel and traditional lion arch lanterns blend time-honored intangible heritage techniques with modern trendy aesthetics. Built with rust-proof steel frames, UV & rain-resistant satin fabrics and low-voltage LED strips, all lanterns operated stably for three months amid coastal high humidity, intense sunlight and strong winds, proving outstanding durability.

During the exhibition period, the show welcomed a total of 650,000 visitors and earned over 4.6 billion online exposures. It greatly boosted local consumption in catering, accommodation and cultural creativity, building a cultural exchange bridge connecting Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
