Back in 1620, a group of pilgrims arrived in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their first winter there was brutal, and many struggled to survive.
Local Wampanoag people taught them how to farm and hunt. With that help, they had a great harvest in the fall of 1621.
The settlers and Native neighbors shared a 3-day feast to give thanks. This meal is known as the first Thanksgiving. In 1863, it became an official US national holiday, held every fourth Thursday in November.
