The highly anticipated 2026 Chongqing Spring Festival Lantern Festival, also known as the Xihuanni Large-Scale Water Lantern Festival, has officially opened at Chongqing Garden Expo Park. As thelargest water lantern show in Western China, this immersive light feast brightens the night sky of Chongqing. Leveraging the park’s vast ecological lake area, it presents a stunning night scenery where lanterns float on the water and visitors wander in a picturesque fairyland, delivering an unparalleled visual experience for tourists in the new festival season.
Centered on the theme of “Sea of Lights Illuminating the Mountain City”, the festival features a 2.8-kilometer lakeside light tour route. The venue is decorated with nearly 2,000 large lantern components and over 7,000 decorative lanterns, including 15 magnificent themed lantern groups. Combining traditional Zigong lantern craftsmanship with modern light technology, the show adopts a unique water and shore integrated design. The shimmering lantern reflections on the lake create layered, dreamlike immersive scenes, breaking the traditional boundaries of ordinary lantern exhibitions.
The exhibition is divided into six themed zones: Colorful New Year, Blessing & Good Fortune, Starry Sky Splendor, Chinese Trendy Style, Fantasy Wonderland, and Glory of the Nation. It perfectly blends traditional Spring Festival customs, trendy Chinese aesthetics and modern light art. Classic lanterns convey festive blessings and reunion meanings, while creative light installations offer trendy night sightseeing experiences. Exquisitely arranged lantern sets blend harmoniously with the park’s landscapes, forming picturesque views at every step.
Beyond gorgeous light displays, the festival offers diverse cultural and festive experiences. Visitors can enjoy Spring Festival markets, intangible cultural heritage performances, traditional Chinese costume parades, and stunning water & light shows.
